NLogPoly Synth App Reviews

powerful classical synth!

one of the best instruments in the world of the classical va-synths. NLog is flexible anyway, easy to handle and very useful for musicians who work with Mac as well with the iPad ... last but not least: a good sound support ("Synth Essentials" for NLogSynth).

Excellent Synth

Very much like a hardware synth, easy to program. This version runs standalone (8 part multitimbral) and in Logic and Garageband as an Audio Units plugin. I first tried it on the iPad and found it to be powerful but easy to program with super fat analog sounds. Very flexible programming can keep you busy tweaking patches for hours. Disable the effects in some patches as they may be too heavy. at this price its a steal for Mac users looking for software synths for Logic or Garageband!

Great synth, just do not update from the Mac Apple Store because...

It breaks the App and crashes your program. Go to the Developer web site to update, and Apple, for Heaven’s sake, remove the broken update...

bug when selecting other voices then main NOT FIXED

bug when selecting other voices then main NOT FIXED!!! And AU not works with Logic X. iMac 27" 2011. It made me very sad, synth on IOS is brilliant.

Does not launch in El Capitan

The app will not launch in El Capitan, so I deleted it, and was about to attempt to re-download it, but the App Store says $11.99. Rather than risk being charged for it, I decided it is not worth my time. If you are going to sell apps on the App Store, and run a proper software business, you have to dedicate your life to it ... no room for updates every few years. Just the inconvenience of having to remove the app, means it is not worth the customers time. The Mac OS updates yearly, so, as a developer, if youre not going to keep up with that, please dont sell apps on the app store, thanks. Too bad, this was a nice app when it was compatible with the Mac OS.

Awesome app, Plug-In problem in GarageBand 10.1.1 & 10.1.2 (FIXED!)

I love this app, the sound banks and presets are very impressive, and the Plug-in works great in Logic Pro X, but throws up an error message reading “The Audio Unit NLogPoly Sy could not be loaded for your project, and may need to be updated….” in the latest two releases of GarageBand. I have tested this on 3 different Macs with the same results. Have deleted and re-installed the Plug-ins without success. UPDATE: Found the fix today in an article on sweetwater.com… If you are getting an error message in GarageBand which prevents the plug-in from loading, 1) Quit GarageBand, 2) Open your ~/Library/Caches/AudioUnitCache/ folder, 3) Delete both com.apple.audiounits.cache and com.apple.audiounits.sandboxed.cache, and 4) Re-launch GarageBand. This will force GarageBand to re-validate the plug-ins, after which the NLogPoly Synth plug-in will load again without issue. Will also note for users who say the app crashes on launch under El Capitan that they should delete it and re-download the application. If you have paid for it once, you will not be charged again, even though the App Store says it will cost $11.99.

i THINK CALL THIS NAME HAVE ONECES Reason, But not. synthesizer means compose differen track, But Just have effect , What hell you want, David, i Tell you , dont be a liar. But fine, eFFect with Tones Very good, Very Poly.

Nice little Synth Module But worry with OS updates!

I bought this App while the OS was Maverick and it worked fine and actually wrote a few songs until I updated the OS to El Capitan. The app became useless. Months have passed and finally an update for the synth app. I was back in business. Now there is another OS update so, here I go and hope it does not kill this little nice app.

Warning: Tempo Rubato has apparently abandoned their SW and customers.

Rolf Wohrmann, where are you? Was there an illness, or worse? Perhaps a falling-out with a partner company? Or a hostile takeover? Tax problems? WHAT!? Sh** happens, we get it. But please…. give us a sign! We all loved your awesome synth when it worked (in Snow Leopard). If it were even just so-so, we would have all moved on by now. But it was much, much more than just so, so. We’ve all been waiting…. patiently… but…. nothing. I sent an email to “Support” many weeks ago now, and have not received any reply whatsoever. I’m flaming you publicly, purposely in an attempt to light a fire under your butt! Please update your app, yes, of course! But at this point – just give us a sign that you are still alive! On behalf of all of us, I’m asking: Please? Should I stay or should I go? If I stay there will be trouble…. if I leave there will be double! (okay, I’m getting off track! (Sorry!) Seriously though, I’m only flaming you publicly because we CARE about this little powerhouse synth! (Am I right, NLogPoly Synth fans?!). If we didn’t care, we would have all bailed long ago. But we didn’t. We’re still waiting. If WE care that much…. don’t you think it’s worth at least a quick post? ;-) Thank you. We all hope to hear from you!

Great Synth…. until…. It doesn’t work anymore.

I used the synth a lot on my songs I recorded in Garageband, but now those songs are not able to be worked on or even listened to, because since I upgraded to the current version of Garageband( or perhaps El Capitan OS), I have not been able to use it. I have tried deleting the app and reinstalling it, but that didn’t work. Every time I try to access the instrument in Garageband I get the message: Audio Unit plug-in can’t be used, The Audio Unit “NLogPoly Sy” could not be loaded for your project, and may need to be updated. Contact the manufacturer for an updated version or further assistance. I have sent an email to Tempo Rubato, and he sent back instruction to do the delete/re-install thig I mentioned above, but when that didn’t work, I sent him another email and got no help. I understand that it isn’t the most expensive app ever, but because I have so many recordings tied up in it, I really need it to work. Heck, I would even pay for it again if it menat I could get it working. Anyway, my review will be edited to a 5 star review if I can get a resolution to this.

Thank you from one very happy user.

Everything one could want in a synthesizer is here for an amazing low price. This is the best choice for Garage Band users to get in to real synthesis on a low budget. The sound quality is very good, and the creative possibilities are without end. The beautiful interface is logically laid out and reminiscent of an old Moog or Profit. If you do not own a midi keyboard have no fear, the instrument plays very well from your computers keyboard too. I am using this within Logic Pro 9. At first there were a few bugs associated with the Audio Unit plug-in. The developer very quickly responded and fixed the problem within 24 hours. (A+) I have mapped certain controls to my hardware midi controller which gives me real knobs and sliders to operate this synth just the way I like. The CPU usage is very reasonable. Missing from the AU plug-in are the Tape and multi-channel layering functions, but they are not absolutely necessary since the DAW host provides these tasks. There are versions for the iPhone and iPad as well. I own the iPhone app, and enjoy using it on the go. I use the "Tape" function to export and create my own Apple Loops for later use. Hopefully other developers will follow suit and port their IOS instruments over to the desktop as temporubato have done. Korg iMS-20 and Moog Filtatron to name a few….are you listening?? Weather you are new to synthesis or an advanced user there is no reason not to own this. Similar products can cost up to 10 times as much. This one has made such an impression on me that my next purchase will be NLogSynth Pro for my iPad!

Incredible synth!

I got this on iPad a few weeks ago and was really impressed. The Mac version is even better. Dont miss this!

Nlogpoly is simply the best analog synth!

I had the IPad version and considered it to be my primary programming synth on IOs. The OSX version is even better as a VSTi. Being able to layer multiple patches makes this the best value anywhere. You would have to spend hundreds of dollars to get this type of layering. If you are using Logic, or Garageband buy this app! You will not regret it!

Good poly virtual synth

Very versatile for the price. Great app if your writing process involves virtual synths. As the title would suggest; does poly beautifully! Definitely worth 24.99 IMHO

Will not even load/open

I recently bought this application (and was extremely excited to try it out), however, the application will not even open/work. I am currently running OSX Lion on my MacBook Pro and NLogPoly Synth freezes upon opening. I am very disappointed.

Great for the price

having been in the business for quite some time, ive paid much more money for software that is comparable to this little app. it has pretty good sounds pre-programed, has very flexible parameter control and works great in Logic (which ive been using since way before apple ever got their hands on it) or as a standalone synth. i would recommend it to anyone from novice to hit makers.

Fantastic Virtual Synth

Software instruments are rare on the Mac App Store. Most developers sell their instruments online. So when I saw the NLogPoly Synth on the Mac App Store, I was both surprised and intrigued. I have the NLog MIDI Synth for my iPod Touch, and it is definitely the best synth available for iOS. But what of the Mac version? Is it worth the $25 I would pay for it? My answer is yes. If you arent familiar with virtual synthesizers, I can tell you straight off that they are commonly very expensive. An "original" synth, designed completely by the developer, usually goes for $60+, while modeling synths, which look and sound like real-world analog synths such as the famous MiniMoog or Prophet, usually go for $200+. So when you compare it, NLogPoly is quite a bargain. But is it a good sounding, high-quality synth? My answer is, again, yes. NLogPoly does have a great sound to it that can be morphed into virtually anything using the four oscillators, two filters, four LFOs, four envelopes, and a nice set of effects. Also, it has a very cool and unique feature - you can layer up to eight completely different synth sounds onto one MIDI channel, giving you a HUGE phat sound. Now, I wont say that the NLogPoly sounds exactly like a vintage analog Moog, but I if youre good with synths and understand how they work and how to shape a great sound, then you can get pretty close. The actual app is a synth for performance mostly, but has a very basic recorder that you can loop or export to your DAW or just to a folder or media player. But once youve bought the synth, you can go to temporubato.com/audiounit and get the audio unit for use in the DAW of your choice for free. One of the best things about this synth, to me at least, is the user interface. The UI really is beatiful, and has that nice wood look of a vintage synth. It is full of parameters, but theyre all organized in an orderly fashion. NLogPoly comes ready with several great sound libraries, but Tempo Rubato gives you 108 blank spaces to save your own sounds. It also includes a great arp. As for use with a MIDI controller, NLogPoly works well with my Akai MPK Mini. It allows you to choose any four parameters for use as your "perf" controls, and then choose CC commands for them. This is nice because I dont need to create a whole new preset on my MPK Mini - I can just choose what CC command controls what. Now, as great as NLogPoly is, there are a few things Id like to see in an update. One big one for me is a full screen mode. Its not that the window is small, its just that it seems small on my 13" MBPs screen. It looks kind of unprofessional when you can still see the edges of my desktop and my dock. One other thing that isnt so important, but Id still kind of like, is some sort of automap thing. Sure, the ability to choose CCs for four knobs and the XY pad is nice, but Id like to see more MIDI controls and an easier way to program them. Overall though, NLogPoly is a great all-around synth and I highly recommend it.

Amazing

Good stuff - though may cause newbie frustration...

Just Do It

Whether you play classical piano or love to just hit keys, get this, play sounds, turn knobs, dont read aynthing first unless you have to. Then get cerebral, but experience it. Learn whatit feels like toget lost in the analog like reach out and turn a know to get the sound I want, kindof playing. Its really, reallycool. Then explore to you heartscontent, or just keep playing. Its in the doing where some guidance can be helpful at the start, and along the way, and sharing, but do out. :_

great product great customer service

Sounds amazing! I initially had some technical issues, but nlog went above and beyond the call of duty to set me straight.
